Silchar-Lumbding railway service inauguration paves way for faster BG service to Tripura

AGARTALA, Nov 21 (TIWN): With the inauguration of Lumding-Silchar broad gauge passenger train section (Assam) through video conferencing from New Delhi by The Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu on Saturday has given clear thumbs up for the commencement of BG railway service in Tripura by March 2016.
This is a milestone achievement in the history of North east India. By March 2016, the other states of NE India including Tripura will be on the railway map of the country with faster connectivity. With the completion of the work of phase-II Tripura will also made its entry in the map of the BG railway service.The Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha remained present at Guwahati Railway Station on the occasion. Union Minister of State Sarbananda Sonowal ,Mp Sushmita Dev & MLA Dilip Kumar Paul were also present on the occasion at Silchar Railyway Station along with Engineering staffs and other Board Member officials at 10 AM.The opening up of Lumding-Silchar Broad Gauge railway line marks a historical day in the history of Railways in north-eastern region and the people are overwhelmed to be a part of this history.Opening of Silchar-lumbding railway project is important mile-stone in the integration of north-eastern region to the nation as it will accelerate development in the region.

Inauguration of Silchar-lumbding will pave the way of starting passenger trains between Silchar – Agartala without any hurdles. 

According to expert, until and unless the train service starts between Silchar – Lumding Agartala cannot make a place in railway map of the country. Hence the commencement to start train service between Silchar – Lumding was important.

It is to be mentioned here that Minister of state for railways-Manoj Sigh is scheduled to hold meeting with CM Manik Sarkar on his two day visit in the state on November 22 to check the progress of the BG conversion work.

With an aim to inspect the progress in the BG Conversion work, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha is likely to visit Tripura on November 22.

Along with CM Manik Sarkar he will also hold meeting with the dignitaries of the state government and the official of the railway division to take a note of the BG conversion work progress.

However the sources also said that during his visit in the State, Minister of State for Railways would discuss about the probability to set up Railway Division office at Dharmanagar.

If everything falls in place trial run can be conducted with railway engine on the newly laid BG track by December end.

So far it is confirmed by the official that BG conversion work will be positively completed by March 2016.  

Railway connectivity would be a gift for the land-locked people of this state.
