AGARTALA, Nov 20 (TIWN): To discuss the technical loopholes and the required infrastructural setup for the transmission of 100 MW power to Bangladesh, India and Bangladesh delegations held a meeting at Vidyut Bhawan on Friday. Seven members of Bangladesh team led by system engineer Pranab Roy and a representative of India led by Mrinal Kanti Chowdhury held the meeting to discuss about the technicalities required for the error-free power transmission. The meeting also expected to decide the tariff for power transmission on tentative role. However, the sources confirmed that the meeting discussed on the issue of technical setup regarding which conductor dropper will be used for connecting, the meeting also proposed that base plate compatibility checking is also required. Indo-Bangla teams also discussed on the point like the required cable length for connection. It is to be mentioned here that Tripura government has shown keen interest to supply 100MW of surplus power to Bangladesh by January (even though Tripura's internal power crisis and regular load-shedding still continue).

However, Bangladesh is looking forward to begin the power trade from December 16, to mark the country’s Bijoy Diwas (Victory day).

The tariff for 100MW unit of power transmission to Bangladesh is not yet decided. A second phase of meeting will be conducted soon to decide the tariff required for power transmission. However, the laying of transmission will not be completed before December as it is a time consuming work.

India will sign an agreement with Bangladesh on November 27 to authoritatively proclaim the trade of 100 MW unit of power between India and Bangladesh from Tripura’s Palatana power project in Gomati district. Undoubtedly the selling of power to power-starved Bangladesh could be beneficial for Tripura as it is a power surplus state now.

As part of the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Dhaka visit, the Ministry of Power has given its nod to sell 100 MW power to Bangladesh from Tripura.    Altogether 65 transmission towers are being erected by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for transmission of power from Sryamaninagar here to South Comilla in Bangladesh via Bishalgarh in Sipahijala district.

However, the decision to sell power from the 726 MW gas-based thermal power project at Palatana was finalized in a joint meeting of the officials of India and Bangladesh in New Delhi

Eyeing forward to further strengthen the bond between India and Bangladesh, Tripura is all set to kick off its fresh supply of 100 MW of surplus power to Bangladesh by  January.  The government owned power Grid Corporation of India is working day & night to finish the process of 47 km transmission of line from western Tripura to southern Comilla (in eastern Bangladesh) by December end.
