Chaos marked the nomination submission of Congress at Agartala city, 49 aspirants file nomination

AGARTALA, Nov 18 (TIWN): Leaving no stones unturned, Congress candidates for Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesdayfiled their nominations to concerned Returning Officers (RO) and SDMs for the ensuing municipal election which is slated to be held on December 9. The nomination process was supported by a colourful and huge procession of Congress workers and cadres led by candidates of particular wards and local leaders.

Thousand of BJP supporters along with candidates hold a massive rally at Agartala which began from Rabindra Bhawan and moved across several parts of the streets and placed the nomination to the DM office.

It is to be mentioned here that congress has submitted the nomination to all the 49 seats at the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

The administrative office of the sub-divisional officer, was where all the action was in the week following the announcement of the municipal polls on December 9.

On Wednesday, the road of Agartala city and the nearby area were under siege all day as bikes, cars, jeeps and buses filled with Congress supporters parked indiscriminately on nearby lanes. Multiple rallies from various parts of city also converged here on foot. Motorists had a harrowing time negotiating the stretch.

All the candidates of Congress have for the 49 seats have submitted their nominations. The elections for the 49-member Agartala Municipal Corporation have started gathering momentum at the Agartala township and the adjoining areas.

Massive rallies with hundreds and thousands of cadres, supporters showed their presence during the nomination submission. The participation of women was a specific seeing in the rallies.

The last date for making nomination would be on November 19 and the scrutiny will be done on the following day. Last date for the withdrawal of the nomination would be on November 23.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department. Besides, the names of SDM and BDOs appointed for one zilla parishad seat, one panchayat samiti seat and 25 wards of gram panchayat is also announced.
