CPI-M 'celebration' of filing nomination papers disrupts normal lives across Tripura

AGARTALA, Nov 17 (TIWN): Amidst huge celebrations and a massive rally at Agartala city the left front candidates filed nomination at DM office on Tuesday. About most of the candidates of the left front party has submitted their nomination on Tuesday. The submission was marked by colourful rallies by the ruling party candidates, leaders and worker and party supporters investing a huge amount of public-money. Almost all the candidates of the ruling party and its alliance party along with RSP, Forward bloc and CPI have filed their nomination to the respective returning officers. With the civic polls doing round the political parties have geared up to ensure victory by finishing the all the necessary works. However, opposition party is scheduled to submit nomination of Wednesday and the other parties the following days.However, it is to be mentioned here that the Union ministry of home affairs have turned down the request of Tripura state election commission to deploy central paramilitary forces for the election to Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and 19 other urban local bodies schedule.

An official report says, state police are given charge to ensure free and fair polls, but the commission, after a meeting with political parties, had decided to deploy central paramilitary forces for the election. 

Tripura has over 10,000 CRPF, BSF and Assam Rifles jawans available on duty besides, Tripura State Rifles and police.

The elections for the 49-member Agartala Municipal Corporation have started gathering momentum at the Agartala township and the adjoining areas.

The last date for making nomination would be on November 19 and the scrutiny will be done on the following day. Last date for the withdrawal of the nomination would be on November 23.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department. Besides, the names of SDM and BDOs appointed for one zilla parishad seat, one panchayat samiti seat and 25 wards of gram panchayat is also announced.

The testing of the Electronic Voting machine (EVM’s) has also began at election department.
