BELONIA / SABROOM, Nov 17 (TIWN): With the poll date near, most of the CPI-M candidates are set to file their nomination papers before the returning officers in Belonia and Sabroom respectively .From door-to-door campaigning, opening up election offices, distribution of pamphlets and displaying banners the candidates are taking several initiatives to woo the voters for the municipal polls, which is scheduled to be held on December 09 next.

By-elections to Two gram panchayat and panchayat samities would also be held on the same day under Satchand and Poangbari RD Block under South Tripura District. Electronic Voting Machines would also be used to conduct the elections in the municipal bodies while old Bungo and Godrej type ballot boxes would be used for the bypolls to the gram panchayats and panchayat samities

The CPI (M) candidates of all the 15 wards of Belonia Municipal Council and Sabroom 9 Nagar Panchayat today filed their nomination papers for the coming municipal elections. The candidates filed their papers to Returning Officer SDM Belonia– Bharmnit Kaur and SDM Sabroom Subash Ch. Saha following a massive rally started from respective party offices. Both Returning Officers stated that they had received nomination papers from the CPI (M) candidates so far.  In another instance, a preparatory meeting was held at Returning Officer’s offices aiming to conduct the ensuing Municipal Council elections peacefully. The meeting was attended by different political parties and officials of concerned department. A Standing committee was formed today to deal with different problems related to the civic elections. A total of 1091 voters( Male=554, Female = 536)  in Belonia Municipality area , 740  voters( Male=386, Female-354) in Sabroom Nagar Panchayat area have been enlisted to exercise their franchise in the 24 seated Belonia Municipal Council and Sabroom Nagar Panchayat elections. A total of 26 polling stations in Belonia/Sabroom Municipility/Nagar Panchayat would be set up for the elections.
