AGARTALA, Nov 14 (TIWN): All the three restaurant owners- Madan Debbarma, Papri Debbarma, wife of Shyamal Bhattacharjee and Abhijit Bhattacherjee involved in sex racket were sent seven days of jail custody by the Additional CJM Court on Friday late night.Besides, the other two arrestees namely Suman Das and Prasenjit Sarkar associated with the sex racket. It has been mentioned that both the accused were engaged in bringing clients to the restaurants.All the five accused were sent to jail custody for seven days while the others were granted bail.The court on Friday rejected the bail application of Madan Madan Debbarma, Papri Debbarma, wife of Shyamal Bhattacharjee and Abhijit Bhattacherjee and the other two people involved in the sex racket. Besides, bail has been granted for the rest of the arrestees.During the hearing, the court has recorded the statements of two minor girls, who were sent to Juvenile Home.Reportedly, both the minor girls were taken forcefully to the restaurants.

There they were being sexually abused at the restaurants. Inquiries revealed that Madan, Papri and Abhijit used to supply women for prostitution to the clients.Earlier, the court had sent all the arrestees to Jail Custody. They were arrested under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1986, after West Police on November 8 busted a sex racket arresting 34 accused and the owner of the restaurants from the Adviser Choumuhani. The drive has been lead by West Police SP Bijoy Nag, Additional SP of West Police Station Sarmishta Chakraborty along with other officials.

Besides, several questions are raised against the role of the police department. It’s good that the police have conducted a raid against running such illegal activity in public place but arresting all the 34 people who went there to spent some time with their loved ones has irked resentments among the mind of the people.

Allegedly people are also pointing figures towards the step taken by the Additional SP of West Police Station Sarmishta Chakraborty who had played an important role during the drive. Reportedly, people are not against the raid conducted with an aim to curb the illicit trade but the resentment fumes when the Tripura Police dragged the innocent faces to the court.  

However, it has been mentioned at most police could have detain or arrest owners of restaurant if there was specific prima facie charge but they made wholesale arrests which could be insulting for those families of the young girls especially.
