BJP gears up for civic polls, begins door-to-door campaign

AGARTALA, Nov 12 (TIWN): With just counting days left for the civic polls, state Bharatiya Janata party has finally geared up and has kicked off the door-to-door campaign for the civic polls to beg votes from the people in their favour for the ensuing civic polls slated to be held on dec 9.

The BJP on Thursday kicked off the campaign for the forthcoming Municipal elections with a mammoth rally, where the candidates urged for votes from the common public to win in the upcoming election.

Joydeep chakraborty candidate for ward no 38 went door to door to campaign for his party and to make them win in the ensuing civic polls.

While the leaders present in the rally urged for greater unity within the party ahead of the polls, the leaders moved door-to door for promoting themselves to earn votes in the election.

The leaders claimed to serve the interests of the common people, to fight for the justice of the people, to fight for equality and to provide all the basic facilities to the people required for the development of the society.

However, it is to be mentioned here that with the aim to win the civic polls the left front has already began the election campaign where the other two major parties in the left front has already began the election campaign long back and congress has not yet declared the manes of the candidates for the election.

The last date for making nomination would be on November 19 and the scrutiny will be done on the following day. Last date for the withdrawal of the nomination would be on November 23.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department. Besides, the names of SDM and BDOs appointed for one zilla parishad seat, one panchayat samiti seat and 25 wards of gram panchayat is also announced.

The testing of the Electronic Voting machine (EVM’s) has also began from Friday at election department.
