One arrested for illegal import of coal through alternative NH

AGARTALA, Nov 10 (TIWN): The so called alternative national highway opened after the collapsed of the NH-44 for the smooth ruin of the vehicles, have now turned to a way for the import and export of the illegal goods.

In a major breakthrough Kadamtala police have detained one coal loaded truck which was entering Tripura through Assam kathal tali areaon Sunday late night.

The driver of the truck is identified as Sushil Sukla.

Susil resident of patharkandi kolkoli area was carrying 20 ton of coal in the 12 wheeler truck bearing number As-01 DD/8128 in the state illegally without paying the tax.

After interrogation police discovered that to escape from the charge of paying tax for 20 ton of coal the accused sushil sukla adopted the route of alternative national highway to enter the state.

 However, police is further investigating the case.

Despite of urging several times for paying tax on time, many traders are importing commodities in the State through Churraibari without paying a single penny for tax.

Reportedly, allegation has been raised against the officials of Sales Tax Department saying that the officials are not taking any action against the prolonged illegal import of goods as they are being bribed.

A section of traders complained that there are some groups of traders, who have been illegally importing the commodities through Churaibarri without paying any tax. Even they have complained to the Department but till day no initiatives has been taken.

They further mentioned that the traders who have been illegally importing the goods always tempted the official of Sale Department with huge amount of bribe and therefore no action has been taken yet to curb the illegal import.

Reportedly, few days back information was given to the Sales Tax Department regarding illegal import of many illegal cartons of Horlicks (Beverage) through Churraibari but the officials delayed by several hours to reached the spot and could not do anything over it.

It is to be mentioned here that with the truck bearing registration number TR-01D-1573, the illegal cartons of Horlicks (Beverage) was brought to Maharajganj Bazaar.

The traders also complained that the officials conducts raid for several time but just for name sake. Every day crores of commodities are unloaded in the MG Bazaar but till day no initiatives are being taken by the Department.
