AGARTALA, Nov 9 (TIWN): DM (West) Millind Ramteke on Monday held the first meeting with representatives of all the political parties at DM office after notification of the Tripura municipal elections.

The sources confirmed that the DM (west) Ramteke elaborated on the schedule of elections notified by the State Election Commission and clarified that the model code of conduct is enforced on the notified areas of elections.

All the political parties fighting in the civic polls should look forward to conduct peaceful election in the state and should look forward to authentic caste of votes by the people.

DM also asked all the party members to avoid the process of tempting the voters by providing them alcohol bottles a day before the election.

The State Election Commission had notified the elections with polling scheduled on December 9.

While clarifying the various issues raised by the representatives of political parties, Ramteke explained the various provisions of model code of conduct and asked the political parties to follow it in true letter and spirit. He also sought cooperation from them for conducting elections in a smooth, free and fair manner.

Use of microphone and loud speakers during the camping by the political parties during the election is allowed only during a certain period from morning 6 to 10 in the night. However, speaking in the meeting DM Ramteke also mentioned that anyone found using loudspeaker and crossing the decibel limit will be fined heavily.

The meeting also discussed on the political meetings and rallies organised by the political parties during the process of elections and the DM urged the representatives to stick to the notified areas for campaign and meetings. He further added that due permission for posters, banners, political meetings and public address system has to be obtained from the competent authority. He also clarified that no any public place can be used for promotion purpose while private places can be used with the due consent of the property owner.

This has been done for the maintenance of law and order in the municipal areas and will be supervised, said the Ramteke.

Supervisor will be appointed for all the polling stations, any party having any issues during the poll can rise up the issue to the supervisor.

The political parties during the meeting also urged the DM to ensure that there is no violation of model code of conduct by any party during the election campaign. To this, DM assured full cooperation.

During the meeting, DM also discussed topics such as total number of voters, number of polling stations, Gram Panchayats, precautions and security measures to be taken during the polls.
