AGARTALA, Nov 2 (TIWN): In order to ensure glitch free welcome for the young Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar on November 4, a meeting was held at Birchandra Library on Monday.

Speaking in the meeting, Education (Sports and Youth Affairs) Minister Sahid Choudhury said that this time after receiving the Golden Girl of Tripura at the Air Port, she will be headed to her home directly.

Later, on the next day of her arrival she will be felicitated by the State with honour.

Young Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar made history on October 25 becoming the first ever Indian to qualify for the finals of World Gymnastics Championships.

American Simone Biles scored 15.633 to lead the eight-woman finalists list, with Karmakar qualifying 7th, ahead of Alexa Moreno of Mexico, who scored 14.899.

The 22-year-old Golden Girl from Agartala scored a total of 14.900 points in the women's Vault qualification at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow.

According to the report, she will be arriving on November 4 in the morning flight.

On the subsequent second vault, the Tsukahara 720, Dipa would twist alright but lose her way stepping out of the lane and be docked points immediately – a 0.3 penalty that would yield a lowly 14.066 (Difficulty 6.0), for an average of 14.683 and a fifth position in the world. It was 0.983 points off the gold, and 0.858 short of the bronze medal.

In 2014 Commonwealth Games, Karmakar won bronze medal in the same event, becoming the first Indian woman Gymnast to do so. This August, she also won bronze medal at the Hiroshima Asian Championships.
