SABROOM, Oct 30 (TIWN): Though Sabroom is a declared gateway of International trade and commerce but a minimum infrastructure even towards international trade is yet to start in this land port. A pucca bridge on the river Feni “Maitri Setu’ which is the pre condition towards functioning as an International gateway of the land port.
It may be mention here that both land customs and immigration check post were functional earlier but the Union government de notified the land customs at Sabroom right from the year 1996 ,and thenceforward it became non functional. Following a fresh notification issued by the union government a new land custom office was built last year but this still remain a non functional. The then Minister for trade and commerce Jitendra Choudhury earlier in the year 2014 informed at a press meet in a recent past that the immigration check post infrastructure is ready to start but waiting for green signal fom Bangladesh side. He further informed that the Union government is the appropriate authority to start a dialogue with the Bangladesh authority.
Tripura State Government have been temporary constructed land custom office at Sabroom Bazar Stall for multipurpose work by India-Bangladesh Government. But last two years this land custom office kept in lock. The then State Commerce Minister Mr Jitendra Choudhury look after the matter specially. In his absence this land custom office did not run/open yet today.
Why is Tapan Chakraborty silent on this issue while he is commerce minister nowadays? But time waits for none because it send wrong message as far as International trade and commerce issue’s is concerned rather it would bring the negligence of the department under the limelight.
