NFR railway intends to introduce passenger services shortly in Silchar-Lumding section in a phased manner

SILCHAR/AGARTALA, Oct 29 (TIWN): GM Construction NFR Harjit Kumar Jaggni visited Lumding Silchar Rail Line on recently. New GM NFR Jamsad will also visit Lumding Silchar Rly Line finally on Friday and he himself announced the inauguration date after signing Safely Certificate. Under this, the nod for opening of new lines has been received for Patharkhola-Mandardisa Bypass line (9 km) and between New Haflong and Silchar stations (100 km) in connection with Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project for public carriage of passengers on Lumding division of NF Railway. There are few considered as critical for running of passenger trains in this section. A few "trouble spots" have also been identified in the stretch. However, he added that the NF Railway was equipped with all the latest technologies to address any sort of hindrance in the movement of trains.

PM will inaugurate our Silchar Lumding BG passenger train service after Kali Puja. Every thing is ready just waiting for PM office to give PM schedule.NFR railway intends to introduce passenger services shortly in Silchar-Lumding section in a phased manner as per following timings: (tentative)

- Silchar - Dimapur - Mariani
- Silchar - Guwahati - Alipurdwar
- Silchar - Guwahati – Sealdah.

The 210km Silchar-Lumding broad gauge route has 21 tunnels, 79 major bridges, 340 small bridges and 28 crossing stations with four halt stations. The maximum permissible speed of the train in hilly area is 70kmph while in plains it is 100kmph.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda in the presence of the then Union railway minister Ram Vilas Paswan laid the foundation stone of Silchar-Lumding project in April 1996.
