23rd State Level Hojagiri festival observed

AGARTALA, Oct 29 (TIWN): Two-day long State level Hojagiri festival has been organized on Wednesday at Nabinjoy Para Higher Secondary School.

The Bru Socio Cultural Organization has started this programme with an aim to promote indigenous culture and tradition.

Hojagiri dance is among one of the famous dances of State Tripura.

Addressing the crowd, Minister Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanu Lal Saha appreciated the initiative taken by the organization. He further mentioned that this kind of initiatives will help the tradition to spread the folk tradition from generation to generation.

The Hojagiri dance is performed by women, of about 4 to 6 member in a team. The Reang tribe of Tripuri people performs this dance.

The male members participated in singing the lyric, playing the Kham, Sumui (Kshumu). Team of women were witnessed performing chorus, and singing in a group. The lyric are very simple but dance is unparallel with the lyric of Hojagiri dance.

However, people belonging to the community from Panisagar, Kanchanpur, Gandacherra, Dharmanagar, Teliamura, Ambassa, Santir Bazaar, Kumarghat, Udaipur and Longtarai Valley had joined the festival.

During the programme, number of Socio-cultural group has performed the Hojagiri Dance.
