AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Despite the launch of city bus under the JNURM project, there is no glimpse of any city bus plying on the city routes within the AMC area, rather plying on the sub-division routes.

Central has sanctioned money to buy buses for facilitating the people of the city with the city bus service but it is seen that rather than plying on the city routes the buses are plying on the sub-divisional routes.

This poor decision of the ruling government has left the people to suffer with the harassment of the auto drivers and to travel in auto for their transportation.

Recently launched 20 city AC buses which ply on 6 different routes of Agartala city is even witnessed running without AC facility in the bus on the streets for past many days.

It is to be mentioned here that Transport Minister Manik Dey inaugurated the 20 AC bus to run on the 6 different routes at Agartala, but it is witnessed that there is no AC facility in the bus and is like the same old existing bus and even the bus does not ply on the city roads.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that as most city buses are in a poor condition in the city and have been damaged in their corners there was need of city bus.

Another reason behind the need was the bad shape of the city buses is their lack of maintenance. The condition of these buses has wanted attention for quite some time, but the authorities have not shown any interest in maintaining them.

It is not comfortable to run the low floor huge buses in the city as it is difficult to drive them while taking a turn at narrow bends in the city.

Though the city buses are launched in the name of AC bus but there is no installment of AC system in the bus and the people are travelling in the non AC bus. The bus which is launched in the name of the name of plying in the city routes it is seen that they are led to ply on the other routes than the city routes.

According to the treaty of the JNURM project, the buses were supposed to ply on the city routes but it is seen that the buses are plying on different routes including champaknagar, Simna, Bisramganj and other areas.

On the one hand auto Mafia raj in the city is rising high as auto is the only transport system that is available in the city routes. Taking the advantage of the single measure of transportation in city routes it is seen that the auto drivers are simply harassing the common public at every hour. It is to be mentioned here that the auto drivers openly charges high fare from the passengers. Even if some passengers asked the auto drivers to keep the fare as per the point -to-point fare the drivers harasses the passengers and misbehaves with them.

The buses were launched to provide a sigh a relief from the hand of the unruly auto drivers in the city routes but the poor politics of the ruling party has left the common people to suffer at the endless level.
