Durga puja arranged in jail only to entertain three criminal CPI-M leaders  : Law & Order stoops to new low in Manik's golden era

AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Manik Sarkar’s left front government “ model state” have set another example in the state yet again.Durga puja was arranged in the jail for entertaining three of their senior leaders currently detained in Belonia jail accused of manhandling judges. It is for the first time in state’ history that Durga Puja has been arranged in any jail. All expenditure of the puja reportedly was managed from state government’s coffer. The incident have surprised the civil society of the state.On September 2, during general strike called by left front two judges were manhandled at Sabroom and Belonia by CPI-M cadres. The three accused in the incident - CPI-M divisional secretary Tapas Datta, divisional members Babool Debnath and Trilokesh Sinha are lodeged in Belonia district jail. The leaders and CPI-M party thought they will get bail before puja, but that did not happen. Under this circumstance, hurriedly arrangement was made for Durga puja in the jail.Now the question is how puja was arranged in jail? Who gave the permission? To get the answer Prison Minister to IG Prisons were all connected. The in charge jailer of Belonia jail, Dhanjoy Bhattacherjee informed that the inmates requested for arranging puja in jail. After getting approval from higher ups the permission was given.Even the jail minister Manindra Reang could not give clear reply about the arrangement.

Even the jailer reply was contradcitory . The idol of Durga was brought  secretly on Sashti morning and  immersion was also done in the same way on Saturday evening.The question that is raised why only one jail was given  permission to arrange the puja, why not other jails. Was the permission only to entertain the three CPI-M leaders currently lodged in jail.  

The picketers on nationwide bandh on September 2, 2015   attacked Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate of Sabroom Court (South Tripura District) – Sourabh Saha when he reached the court to attend office. The mobs also ransacked his office forcing him to seek shelter in the toilet room. In the incident, many police officers including Sub Divisional Police Officer and Sabroom police station Officer –in-Charge were also injured.

The arrests came  after the High Court of Tripura took a strong view of the attack on the court of the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Saurav Saha who was forced to take shelter in a toilet.

The arrested person according to police are Bijay Dey, Biswajit Ghosh, Abhik Basak and Abhijit Dey had been arrested over the past three days. Nearly 100 CPI(M) workers raided the court premises, ransacked the court room and assaulted a few staff members to enforce the strike.

Officer-in-charge of Sabroom police station Sanjit Sen fainted when police personnel scuffled with the picketers to prevent them from entering the court. Later, the police cleared them out of the area.

Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Gupta wrote to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urging him to ensure protection of courts and staff. Jusitce Gupta and Register General visited Sabroom  after the incident to review  the situation. Four CPI(M) workers were arrested in connection with the attack on a court in Sabroom.
