Hydro test of CNG vehicles mandatory, pumps will refuse gas

AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): Starting November 1, pumps will refuse CNG to vehicles found without a compliance plate. The plate includes a CNG cylinder identification number, date of installation, date of last re-test, besides other things. CNG run vehicles will not be given gas from November 1. As per guidelines it is mandatory to hydro test the gas cylinder of CNG vehicles. Meanwhile, TNGCL authorities have issued notification stating that it is mandatory of having cylinders hydro tested. If any vehicles fails follow the guidelines, then from November 1 gas will not be given to them. An official of TNGCL said taking in consideration of the safety passengers the decision was taken as per direction of central ministry of petroleum and natural gas.It is mentionable here that safety measures keeping in view passengers TNGCL is under constant pressure in implementing the guidelines. Every time, TNGCL have to back track from implementing in due to pressure from ruling party transport workers union. Resulting in sidling the safety and security of passengers.This exercise aims to crackdown on vehicles using unauthorized CNG kits," said an TNGCL officer. The agency is also distributing pamphlets at CNG pumps . In the first phase last year,TNGCL had promoted awareness on re-testing of the cylinder. For all CNG vehicles, whose cylinder life has crossed five years, it is mandatory to get a hydrotest done. "The test helps in certifying the cylinder and provides other details. As per the Gas Cylinder Rules 2004, it is mandatory to run hydro test on cylinders of CNG and LPG vehicles every five years. With the updated plate we would also be able to keep a tab on this," the official added.
