State gears up for ensuing Laxmi Puja

AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): Just when the Durga Puja celebration ends with tears in the eyes of devotees, State once again gears up to welcome the Goddess of wealth on October 26.

Traders are setting up the idols in front of their shop marking the arrival of the day of the celebration of Laxmi Puja. Fruits vendors are getting ready with the new arrival of fresh fruits in the market.

According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Laxmi is worshiped for wealth and prosperity. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped every year in Hindu households all over the country. 

Hindu Goddess Laxmi is one of the most popular and widely worshipped Goddesses in Hindu tradition since pre-Buddhist period.

However, the time for the puja varies across the country. Some people celebrate Laxmi puja during Diwali while some people celebrate it after Dusshera. The kojagari Laxmipuja is generally performed by the women.

In every Hindu houses this Puja is carried out ceremoniously, often collectively among neighbours and relatives. Houses and the surrounding of Goddess Laxmi are decorated with floor patterns made of rice and water to draw alpana.

Goddess Laxmi, the possessor of wealth, fortune, beauty, power, luxury, fertility and auspiciousness, is believed to bestow the same on those, who deserve her grace.

The mixture for the alpana is prepared with rice flour and water to decorate the entrance of the house to welcome Mother Laxmi. Feet of Goddess Laxmi are painted on the entrance to welcome Mother Laxmi and prosperity in the house.

Thus Laxmi Puja is celebrated to usher in prosperity and fortune in their lives as Goddess Laxmi is said to be 'swarna hasta' or golden handed.
