Pilak to get facelift, Union Tourism Ministry sanctioned Rs 82 lakhs for the upgradation

AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): With the aim to develop tourist spots of land locked Tripura, Union Tourism Ministry sanctioned Rs 82 lakhs for the upgradation of the Pilak - A symbol of Hindu-Buddhist cultural affinity. Lack of maintenance over years has spoiled the beauty of the place. Improper care and lack of timely renovation has spoiled the emphasis of the tourist spot, Pilak - A symbol of Hindu-Buddhist cultural affinity. However, the union tourism ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs 82 lakhs for the up gradation of the spot. There is possibility the initiatives will be taken to develop the transport measures along with sanitation facility and facility of drinking water. There are also possibilities that a cafeteria will also be built for the comfort of the tourist. Nestled in Jolaibari, a small town of Tripura’s South District, Pilak, an 8th-12th century archaeological site, stand mute as an eloquent symbol of Hindu-Buddhist cultural affinity as much as the glorious cultural past of the State.Stone engravings and statues of Shiva, Surya, Baishnabi and Mahishashurmardini stand alongside the statues of Lord Buddha in different places like Shyam Sundar Tilla, Deb Bari, Thakurani Tilla, Balir Pathar, Basudeb Bari and others in a three square kilometer site.Nestled in the lush green valley dotted with paddy-fields, sparse human habitation and occasional uplands, Pilak in South Tripura's Belonia subdivision is famous tourist destination, holds the key to Tripura's ancient history.

 The area displays numerous tourist attractions of terracotta plaques, sealing with Stupa and stone images of Avolokiteswara, including the images of Narasimhan, found there dating back to Buddhist period.
