Miscreants molested women, harassed businessmen for Puja donation: 2 sent to Jail custody

AGARTALA/ UDAIPUR, Oct 24 (TIWN): Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Chakraborty on Saturday sent two miscreants 4 days of Jail custody accused of harassing the family of a businessman Jaharlal Poddar, resident of Khudiram Palli area of Amarpur Madhabazaar after he refused to provide Rs. 5 lakh as Puja donation. Besides, the miscreants also have beaten up the businessman and his son Ajay Poddar and molested all the women of his family. Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Chakraborty asked Police to produce the accused on October 27 next with the case diary. Despite of strict guidelines by the Administration, businessmen in various part of the state are harassed and threatened by members of Puja in the name of collecting donations for Durga Puja after they refused to pay subscription for organising Durga Puja in the area. Birganj Police on Friday arrested two members of the Puja Committee of Amarpur Khudiram Sangha, accused of harassing the family of a businessman Jaharlal Poddar after he refused to provide Rs. 5 lakh as Puja donation. Police has managed to arrest Tulak Saha (32), Susankar Saha (25) and the third one Kamal Saha has managed to flee.

Reportedly, after beating the businessman and his son brutally, the miscreants went to their house, harassed the family members of the businessman and also molested the women of the family.

Getting alarm about the incident the police of Birganj Police Station rushed to the spot and started to investigate the matter.

The businessman said that he was beaten up by a group of youths. He further said that the miscreants also beaten his son and molested the women of his house.

The Puja Committee members of few clubs turn extortionist at this time of the year. They turn up at any shop at any time of the day in a group and demand as much as donation. If anyone refuses to budge, they vandalize the shop and assault the owner.

According to the law, putting pressure on an individual for any kind of donation is equal to extortion.

Miscreants have also damaged two bikes of the family. However, along with businessman Jaharlal Poddar, two other businessman namely Gautam Roy, Diman Saha and a woman registered compliant against the miscreants.

However, the Birganj police have arrested two on the miscreants and the third one has managed flee. Further investigation is going on.

In a bizarre incident, Puja Committee members of Netaji Play Forum on October 15 harassed a shopkeeper after he has refused to pay any amount as Puja Donation.

Reportedly, the incident took place at Netaji road of the Capital. Getting alarm about the incident West Police rushed to the spot and bought the situation under control.

According to the police sources, the situation has been brought under control and both the party has done a mutual solution.

However, a strict initiative should have been taken to curb such kind of untoward incidents. Besides, resentment is brewing up over this kind of incidents in the area.
