BG Conversion: Second phase of Agartala-Karimganj conversion work underway

AGARTALA, Oct 18 (TIWN): 2nd phase of conversion of railway track for 222 km Agartala-Karimganj is going on in full swing. It is to be mentioned her that a total of conversion of 109 km of rail track from Meter Gauge (MG) to Broad Gauge (BG) for the Agartala – Kumarghat railway track is completed and is now ready to run the goods train in the track while the BG conversion works for remaining 113-km rail line is on progress. It is to be mentioned her that the successful trial run for the trolley on the 109km of Agartala –Kumarghat Broad gauge (BG) railway track is already conducted at the Agartala railway station in presence of NFR officials.There are many challenges in the Dharmanagar- Karimganj route in comparison to the Agartala- Kumarghat track. Construction of the Dharmanagar- Karimganj rail line may take time but is expected to get completed in given duration. The old platform of Dharmanagar railway station has been demolished completely. But the progress of various works between Dharmanagar and Nadiapur is reportedly going on in a turtle speed. Indian Railways connectivity in India’s north eastern region will get boost with the launch of the first ever broad gauge passenger trains to Tripura. The latest trend of work at Agartala railway station shows that days are not so far when people of Tripura can travel long distances in BG trains and get connected to rest of the part of the country. The train service is already suspended from September 20 until the conversion is ended.

The service will remain suspended during the construction work and laying BG tracks replacing the meter gauge. 

The pace of the conversion work shows that Agartala will soon be connected with the BG track to bring in sync with the rest of the country.It is worthy to mention that the laying of tracks at Charilam is already completed and work is under progress as Gokul nagar.

As a part of the faster development in the work progress of the BG conversion work the NFR team undertook work conversion work from September 20 following which the passengers and goods train from Agartala to Karimganj is already suspended.

The successful run of the trains on the broad-gauge track will bring sync with those in the rest of the country and Tripura is gearing up for faster connectivity and communication with several parts of the nation.

Days are not so far when after the BG (Broad gauge) conversion work, Agartala will also be connected with by BG track with country’s railway network.
