AGARTALA, Oct 18 (TIWN): The blocks of the state have become institutions of corruption. Alongwith the blocks the division offices of the rural development department is running neck to neck. Both are in competition to become champion of corruption. Central government is sanctioning crores of rupees for the development of the state. The sanctioned amount when reaches the blocks and RD division offices blue print are for financial embezzlement is prepared. Financial anomalies of crores of rupees in Bishalgarh, Dasda and Rupaichari block were mentioned in government files. By looting governemntfunds a section of engineers have become “ crore pati’s” disproportionate to the known sources of income. The trend of looting in the three mentioned above block was so immense that from grass root employees to higher ups were active in their mission of looting. It is not that the state government is not aware about ongoing rampant corruption in blocks and RD division offices. But no steps are taken to control the rein of corruption. There is a vigilance department in the state but its role against corruption is insignificant. The department has failed to take any action against any big fishes involved with corruption. In most cases corruptions are reportedly acknowledged by the administration.

The fund siphoned is invested in other states. In 2013 -14 financial year, like Bishalghar block in Rupaichari block the amount of corruption was Rs 10 crore.

But then also no investigation was done by the government, But the government rose to action after High Court of Tripura took a suo motto case on corruption at Rupaichari block.

The court has directed DM of South Tripura and Principal Secretary of RD Department to appear in court physically. But the government took some more time from the court.
