Police jumps on action to curb illegal activity on Puja eve : Joint raid conducted to check illegal sale liquors

AGARTALA, Oct 16 (TIWN): With the aim to check the illegal sale of liquors in the city, a team of Tripura police including DIG (Southern Range) Uttam Kumar Majumder, SP Bijoy Nag, SDPO Sadar Rajendra Datta, OC of East and West police station along with others conducted raid in several shops of MG Bazaar and ceased a huge amount liquors from the shops.Making a sudden raid at the shops, the team of police on Thursday ceased a total of 3000 litre of country made liquors, 110 bottles of foreign liquor, 26 bottle of corex, along a cash of Rs4870 from the shops.East police personnel on Thursday confirmed that that raid was conducted to check the rise of illegal sale of liquor in the city ahead of durga puja.However, the police also confirmed that all the country made liquor bottles were destroyed infront of DIG and all other alcohol products were ceased by police.No one is arrested in this regard so far and police is further investigating the case.It is to be mentioned here that Aiming to maintain the Law and order in the State, West Tripura District Magistrate has ordered to keep the liquor shops close from October 20 to 22.Under the Tripura Excise Act 174 a (e) it has been mentioned that all liquor licenses shall close their premises. Therefore, in order to ensure peace during the puja tenure, an order has been circulated that all the liquor shops will remains close.Despite of several initiatives taken by the authority to control the consumption of alcohol during the Puja tenure to avoid any untoward incidents, many liquor ships continues their business in the dark.Reportedly, there are some traders who continue to sell the liquors illegally.The illegal trade of liquor during the celebration raised problems for the passerby especially for the girls. Even teenagers create chaos on the road and in the crowded area.

Besides, many reports of accidents come up as the riders or the riders drive after consuming alcohol. 

Many a time the girls have to face harassment and are being teased on the road and in the crowded areas.Allegation has been rose against the police that despite of noticing several times, they play the role of silent spectator which gives rise to several untoward incidents during the puja hour.

However, despite of massive security in the State to avoid any untoward incidents, the police personnel should also keep keen eyes towards the illegal business in liquor shop during puja tenure.
