AGARATALA, Oct 14 (TIWN): To mark the celebration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction, pledge for disaster preparedness has been taken on Tuesday at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.
As a part of the programme a seminar has been organized. Minister for Minister for Health & Family Welfare Badal Choudhury inaugurated the programme, in the presence of DM Milindh Ramteke, IG Nepal Das and others.
They have pledged to prepare individuals and communities to face the fury of nature, to migrate the damage caused in its wake.
Besides, pledge of extending recue, relief and rehabilitation to the victims has been taken.
They have taken pledge of creating awareness amongst people, of the need to be alert to the potential threats in the environment, to act with a sense of responsibility to the community at large in dealing with disasters and thus to protect mankind from dangers of its own actions and inaction.
However, they also pledged to perform their duty to equip people to face disasters effectively so that the destruction caused can be minimized and the process if recovery is expedited.
The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) encourages every citizen and government to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.
International Day for Disaster Reduction started in 1989 with the approval by the United Nations General Assembly. The UN General Assembly sees the IDDR as a way to promote a global culture of disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.
