Fly-over construction to remain suspended during Puja to avoid traffic chaos, Traffic SP talks to TIWN

AGARTALA, Oct 1 (TIWN): With the aim to avoid traffic glitch during the puja days, fly-over construction to remain suspended for 7 days, confirms Traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das.

Talking to TIWN correspondent on Wednesday Traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das said that with Durga Puja knocking at the door, traffic measures have geared up to look for forward for smooth conduct of festival in the state.

He further said that, as Battala is the main junction of the city and caters crowd from all direction the fly-over construction will remain suspended during the 7 days of the puja from Soshti to Laxmi puja and will resume after Laxmi puja.

Keeping in the view the rush gathers at the Battala junction during the puja days the decision is taken to stop the construction work during puja, added Das.

Stressing on the traffic measures to be adopted during puja days, he further said that Police will soon notify the public about its plan to streamline the traffic flow during Puja.

He also added that a detailed route chart has been prepared to regulate the traffic by introducing ‘one-way’ system in different parts of the city which is supposed to host a crowd of lakhs.

The one way traffic system will be regulated for many of the streets and will also focus on the main roads connecting several roads, said traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das.

Moreover, a proposal to divert heavy vehicles is also taken underway.

A public notice on restricting the movement of vehicles in the evening 6 to 12 in the night will be circulated soon. However, all the government vehicles, ambulance and other vehicles under emergency and vehicles with pass can move freely.

No entry will be given to most of the roads and some roads will remain opened for 24 hours for the regular access of the common public.

A plan has been made to divert the traffic on some routes through alternative routes to avoid traffic massacre during the puja days.

All the necessary arrangements will be adopted for the smooth conduct of this festival to avoid any last-minute glitch.

Stressing on the traffic maintenance, he further said that the major city roads should be renovated by the PWD department as early as possible to   provide smooth movement of traffic on the roads.
