Unakoti DM visits Kailashahar-Kumarghat road to inspect construction site

KAILASHAHAR, Sep 30 (TIWN): Unakoti DM Mrinal Kanti Nath on Tuesday visited the maintenance site in order to inspect the work progress on 2 kilometre of Kailashahar – Kumarghat road, as a part of preparation before the arrival of Transport Minister Manik Dey on October 4.

Stressing on the use of good quality materials and to do the maintenance work properly, DM in the presence of Senior Magistrate GR Das and PWD Executive engineer said to BRO Executive Engineer Pankaj Dixit that though it is a temporary construction work before the upcoming Durga Puja and the arrival of Transport Minister but a quality should be maintained so that people do not have to face problem in the coming days.

Besides, the locals had placed complain before the Unakoti DM on September 28 over poor quality of materials used in the maintenance work.

According to the locals, brick chips of big size are being used to fill the potholes on the roads which are dangerous for the vehicles including the passengers and the pedestrians as it may crack out from the coated pot holes.

The carpeting has been cleaned up at many places exposing potholes and uneven stretches making the journey of motorists dangerous. The toppings have flown with rain water creating natural speed breakers and potholes, complaint the locals.

It only shows the shoddy quality of work that was undertaken by the contractors, added.

Over 200 potholes are exposed over the road and the workers are using brick chips of big size which will create problems for the drivers as well as the pedestrians, said a locals.

The road has been in deplorable condition for prolonged many days and due to rain it has turned into terrible shape with more than 200 potholes over 2 kilometre of road. The locals further complaint that in the year 2011 altogether Rs. 80 crore has been sanctioned to renovate 24 kilometre of road to BRO but till day only 200 metre has been renovated.

Locals further stressed that if at least 2 kilometre road has been renovated than they do not have to see the day.

However, it has been mentioned that the maintenance work will be over by October 10.
