AGARTALA, Sep 29 (TIWN): Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and Meningococcal – meningitis diseases are slowly spreading in the state. The health department already issued high alert in Dhalai district. Due to lack of awareness among the people in the state about the diseases the situation may turn into epidemic, think health experts.

Report says in blood test conducted recently, dengue germs was detected in  10 people and JE germs in 14 people at the lab of medical college.  The dengue patients mostly are from other states, after detecting positive for better treatment majority  of them went outside the state.  Few are undergoing treatment at GBP hospital. In the same way, JE is also spreading silently in the state. JE germs were found in the blood of 14   people. All are being treated at GBP and IGM hospitals.  However, there is no report of deaths in both cases.

Meanwhile health experts fear mya disease in Dhalai dsitirct. Five years back 250 people died due to the disease in the district. After five years the disease may resurface again in the affected areas.    The three diseases is a suitable breeding ground in the malaria prone (PF) state.

Dengue and JE are vector borne diseases, it spreads through mosquito. Meningo spreads through cough and cold. Maximum cases found positive among those who came from other states. Under this circumstance  health screening of people at Agartala airport is urgently required. But the health department is doing nothing in this regard.

Health Minister Badal Choudhury visited Dhalai district on Sunday to  review the situation. He directed if anybody found suffering from fever should be kept under medical observation. He also warned of stern action if there is negligence of duties by health department officials.
