AGARTALA, Sep 29 (TIWN): Tripura’s all political parties BJP, Cong & CPI-M in fierce competition to highlight their own stands with the miserable condition of NH-44. On Sep 27, CPI-M organized mass protests against the deplorable condition of NH-44 blaming the Assam Govt., on the other hand Cong. went for road blockade for 2 hours throughout the state on Sep 28. State BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta while talking to TIWN said, “CPI-M looted 47 crores of Central Govt Funds in the name of NH-4 restoration work. We will hold a press meet soon in this regard, as we are already late due to few important meetings in the last week”.CPI-M kept on blaming Assam Govt.and the oppositions are blaming CPI-M for the dilapidated condition of NH-44 in Tripura. BJP President Sudhindra while talking to TIWN said, “PWD is playing a very negligence role here at Tripura”. Asking about the Assam Govt.’s issue he said, “Assam Govt. will do its own part, but whats the Tripura Govt.is doing here?”. “Whole Tripura is badly suffering due to NH-44’s pathetic condition, so before blaming other Govts the state govt. should look into the horrible condition of NH-44 in Tripura”.Sudhindra further added, “During a press meet PWD Minister Badal Choudhury, was lying that the Central had not sanctioned any fund for NH-44’s restroration. However, in total 19 crore was sanctioned earlier and 4 crores more have been allocated from the centre very recently. More 25 crores is going to be sanctioned. So how come the state govt. blame the centre for not sanctioning funds?”

However, CPI-M sat in protest in Sept 27 where MPs Jiten Chaudhury and Shankar Prasad Dutta remained present. According to CPI-M, Assam govt.’s negligence and lack of co-operation troubling Tripura consistently. Whether the condition of NH-44 is everywhere in bad shape at Tripura, CPI-M here in Tripura blaming the Assam Govt. for not taking steps to renovate the road. Moreover, from Churaibari to Loarpora has become a death trap at Assam. It’s to be mentioned that CPI-M at Assam is presently an opposition party, and here in Tripura CPI-M is a ruling party. So though this protest CPI-M either from Tripura or from Assam opposed the Assam Govt., which was helpful for CPI-M parties in both states to earn more sympathy of common people.

Tripura Pradesh Cong., CPI-M’s rival here at Tripura held a press meet on Sep 22, chaired by Birajit Sinha, State Cong. President at Cong. Bhawan. During the meet Cong. announced for a civil-disobedience movement on Sept 28, to protest against the continuous deplorable condition of National Highway. Accordingly the protest rally was held from Churaibari to Khayerpur, and continued from 11 am to 1 pm. However, no  emergency service was stopped during the protest rally. Blaming the left front govt., Cong. President Sinha said that the ruling govt.’s negligence role is damaging the condition of NH-44 day by day. In their demands Cong. said, from September 28, Cong. had given 7 day’s time to the present govt. to take initiatives urgently  to renovate the road condition, other wise Cong. will start massive protest.

However, it is to be mentioned that from this political issues the state govt. at last opened the alternative path of NH-44, which  is known as N H C Road. This road has already opened for the benefit of the people, as due to NH-44’s pathetic condition,  foods, perishable items within the vehicles was rotting on the way which affected the vegetables market as well as spiked prices of fuel market badly here at Tripura.

Moreover, PWD had also started to take initiatives in North Tripura to renovate NH-44 which belongs to Tripura’s land.  It’s to be seen how long it would need to renovate this National Highway fully.
