Opposition party leaders arrested for blocking NH44

AGARTALA, Sep 28 (TIWN): Karamchora Police on Monday arrested Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman, working president of Prasdesh Congress- Ashish Saha, Diba Ch.Hrangkhawl, Deepak Majumder along with other party supporters for blocking the traffic on the national highway 44 for 2 hours at karamchora as a part of the massive protest for demanding quick renovation of the NH.

It is to be mention here that Pradesh Congress leaders and supporters came out on the road at several places to enforce a 2 hour-long blockade demanding a quick renovation of the deplorable condition of the National Highway 44 at the earliest.

The traffic at the NH was badly hit in the morning. The police later cleared the highway by taking many activists of the political parties and their leaders into custody.

The blockade continued for 2 hours from morning 10 AM to 1 in the afternoon at 10 different spots of the National Highway.

However, among the 10 spot, massive protest was held at 3 spots including, Churraebari, Karamchora and Khayerpur.

While opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman lead the protest at Karamcherra, party MLA Biswabandhu Sen raised voice at Churaibari and PCC president Birajit Sinha remained present at Khayerpur along with  Youth Congress President Sushanta Chowdhury and MLA Gopal Roy and others.

Police arrested the leaders of the opposition party at karamchora who squatted on the highway at 10 different spots in demand of the faster renovation of the NH from Sabroom to Belonia.

However, opposition party accused the ruling government of suppressing a peaceful and democratic protest to demand quick renovation of the state’s only lifeline NH44. Congress also claimed that the protest was successful.
