AGARTALA, Sep 25 (TIWN): Although many vehicles are stranded along the Assam Agartala NH-44 highway, Tripura Govt. is yet to take decision how to rescue the stranded trucks. “If the Assam Govt. doesn’t take any action, what can we do?â€, Tripura Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik earlier told TIWN. However, it was on Wedensday that MP Shankar Prasad Datta asked the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj to rescue Tripura’s trucks which has been stuck on that road.
Except blaming the Assam Govt. Tripura govt. presently is not doing anything significant to end this deadlock.
However, transport dept. earlier also said that North Tripura DM has been asked to start renovate the work of NH-44. But depending upon the weather govt. is yet to take any step for NH-44. It’s to be mentioned that on NH-44 in the Lowerpowa area of Patharkandi many trucks from Tripura are standing in rows helplessly. However, due to road blockage and NH-44’s pathetic condition, the inhabitants of the area are also protesting against the situation, says report.
On the other hand price-hike at vegetable markets is on the top. Already businessman has increased the price of various items as fish, fruits and vegetables etc. here at Tripura. The reason behind price-hike is giving by the shop-keepers is the present deplorable condition of NH-44 due to which export-import has been stopped.
"The road condition on a 15-km stretch at Lowerpowa, close to Tripura border Churaibari, is pathetic since April this year. Despite repeated requests to the Assam government and National Highways Authority of India, the situation remains unchanged," alleged Datta.
