AGARTALA / SABROOM, Sep 25 (TIWN): Sabroom CJM court chaired by Judge Ashit Debnath sent 3 accused to 6 day’s Judicial Custody in its 3rd hearing on Thursday evening. The first hearing was on Sep 2, whereas the second hearing was on Sep 11 and the Court denied bail to the accused CPI-M goons and sent them in JC. These four accused CPI-M goons are Abhijit Dey, Abhik Basak, Bijay Dey, Biswajit Dey. However, these CPI-M cadres earlier appealed for bail, but CJM court of Sabroom rejected their bail appeal repeatedly due to ghastly nature of attack on judiciary. But surprisingly, after the hearing on September 11, one of the cadre Abhijit Basak managed his bail on September 19 on the medical grounds. While talking SP Bhanupada Chakraborty(presently on leave) talking to TIWN over phone mentioned that, “Although court rejected the bail appeal of Abhishek on Sep 11, but on the medical ground he managed his bail order on Sep 19”. Chakraborty further said, “According to his bail order, it’s said that due to his wife’s sickness Abhishek Basak was given bail”.

However, police at the beginning was very slow to arrest the culprits. Only two of the goons had been arrested on the day of the incident, and court immediately sent them to police remand. But both the chief accused namely Abhijit Dey and Abhik Basak were at a lease, till September 5, after 4 day’s of the incident. Surprisingly, whether that incident caused panic among masses in Tripura, CM Manik Sarkar didn’t utter a word against this incident. Then it was on Sep 5 that High Court Chief Justice Deepak Gupta visited Sabroom Court, and condemned the attack on Judiciary.

Justice also condemned over the incident by saying, “Such incidents are unexpected in a democratic country”. He also asked the South DM and SP to arrest all of the accused immediately and criticized the South Dist. administration. “Whether all the Districts observed the strike peacefully, it’s only South Tripura which marred in violence”, said Gupta.

Immediately after Chief Justice had left Sabroom on Sep 5, within 24 hours, police arrested the 2 culprits at 3 am from their own houses. Advocate A. Debnath on behalf of the accused appealed again and again for their bails. But Judge Ashit Basak rejecting the appeal sent Bijay Dey, Biswajit Dey, Abhijit Dey and Abhik Basak for Judicial remand for 14 days (till 24th September). But within that time one namely Abhijit Dey managed his bail order on Sep 19 as his wife is sick.

It’s to be mentioned that on Sep 2, CPI-M backed trade Unions called for a 24 hour’s strike. All the offices, schools, colleges had been closed. But in CPI-M’s rule, Court is also now allowed to function. When Sabroom Court Magistrate Saurabh Saha was on the way to court on Sep 2,Judge  was verbally abused by the CPI-M leaders. But after a while Magistrate entered the court along with his 2 more officials and the police escorted him to the office. But when Saha was doing his official work, the picketers thronged into the office and attacked him inside court premises.

After that incident, all Tripura public and intellectuals condemned attack on Judiciary. The protest against this incident is still going on through out the whole state. But very few people knows that one of the CPI-M goons is presently enjoying his bail order on “Medical Ground”, due to his family member’s staged illness.
