Malaria: State govt fails to spent sanctioned amount, at least 14 people died in last two months

Agartala, Sep 21 (TIWN): Due to unprofessional conduct of health department, last year about 50 lakhs of wrong malaria medicines was procured. More than hundred died due to malaria, 90 percent of deceased are indigenous mostly children.The centre have warned the state government stating the administration top to bottom have failed miserable to control malaria. Even after centre’s warning, the health department has not learned from last year mistake.

This year, there are report of malaria are coming from different parts of the state. Reports say, the fund sanctioned by centre this year still remains unutilized. Due to this reason second installment was not released.

Meanwhile at least  14 people died of malaria across the state as per the latest report. A total of 18000 malaria cases have been identified till July across the state.So far, they have collected over 2 lakh blood samples from different areas of the state. Of them, 18,000 were confirmed malaria positive.The rate of pf malaria cases is found to be higher than the normal malaria cases. Over 90 percent cases are found to be pf.

However, the department claims initiatives undertaken like  spraying of DDTs has been started in and around the city and other interior places throughout the state to evade the scope of favorable environment for the growth of mosquitoes.The department has already brought total 50,000 mosquito nets to distribute among the people. However, they are about to get additional 10 lakh of nets in the coming days.

Over 100 people died of malaria from different interior villages of the state last year. The disease mostly affects children because due to their lesser immunity. However, the reasons for the latest deadly outbreak, which began in the last year, are unclear.
