Two Bangla nationals among three NLFT militants arrested in Tripura

AGARTALA, Sep 20 (TIWN / bdnews24.com): Three militants of a banned NLFT group including two Bangladeshis were arrested in Tripura police said here.Two militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) who had crossed into India from Bangladesh were arrested from Kanchanpur in North Tripura on Saturday afternoon.Based on information provided by them during interrogation , one more was arrested last night from Sutarmura in Sepahijal around 260 km from state capital Agartala.The Bangladeshi militants have been identified as Kanendra Tripura and Binduram Tripura. They are residents of Old Jupui under Bagaicherri police station in Rangamati in the Chittagong Hill Tracks.The third militant is an Indian national from Tripura , one Rajesh Debbarma , inspector Milan Chandra Datta of West Agartala police station told bdnews24.com. Datta said that the arrests were carried out on specific information from the Special Branch (SB) of Tripura Police that two militants are crossing the border to escort back six newly recruited NLFT militants to Thangnang base camp in the CHT in Bangladesh.

On suspect two youths were nabbed in Kanchanpur area and during search Bangladesh currency, SIM card and subscription book of the militants was found in their possession.
 
Later they confessed of being NLFT cadres and had crossed to take new cadres for training along with their Indian counterpart here.
 
They also informed that they worked for the new anti-talk fraction of NLFT under the leadership of Kajol Debbarma and Subrata Debbarma and use to collect fund under the banner of North East India Mongolian Cultural Organization.
 
Police is continuing its interrogation to find out if the militants had any plan like the series of blast they had conducted in capital Agartala in October 2008 just before the festival of Eid and Durga Puja.
 
NLFT , into its second decade of armed movement for an independent Tripura nation,  is now going for its third round of peace talk with the India government . But some hardline activists are opposing return to normal life and are planning to fight on .
