Muhuri Char issue panics Belonia Border area : Section 144 at Indo-Bangla Border at South Tripura

AGARTALA, Sep 20 (TIWN): For long 3 months Indo-Bangla border area at Belonia under South Tripura has been imposed with section 144. Including Muhuri Char area, in total 4 km area has been has been identified given red alert with the risks in border area are increasing day by day.

Presently South Tripura Dist.’s many parts are undergoing internal clashes between Bangladeshis and Indians, as robbers from the neighbouring country are entering across border.  66 years had been passed that Tripura Joined India, still Belonia Ballamukha to Muhuchar area’s people are suffering due to lack of proper fencing.

India gave away to Bangladesh 110 of the 111 enclaves and received 51 enclaves in return at midnight on July 31, but one enclave - Tripura's Muhurichar - remains to be decided.

As part of the implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement of 1974 and its 2011 Protocol, India was scheduled to give away to Bangladesh 17,160 acres, covering 111 enclaves and in return India received 7,110 acres comprising 51 enclaves.

On the intervening night of July 31 and August 1, around 52,000 inhabitants of 162 enclaves in Bangladesh and India got the taste of freedom for the first time in 68 years, officially becoming citizens of either of the two nations.

Of the 162 enclaves, two -- southern Tripura's Muhurichar scheduled to go to Bangladesh and northern Tripura's Chandannagar -- were projected to remain with India.

Talking to TIWN, Minister Badal Chaudhury said, ““Belonia is often attacked by robbers, smugglers due to lack of proper security in border areas”. Minister also said, fencing at Belonia border area has become quite impossible right now with the long dispute over Muhuri Char”. Chaudhury mentioning about the security of the Belonia public said, “the fencing needs to be done fast”. However, a meeting will be held soon at New Delhi to resolve the dispute over Muhuri Char”, added Chaudhury.

The South District Administration has imposed section 144 of IPC around 4 kilometer along the Indo-Bangla border to maintain security in the border adjacent area for the sake of security of people.DM in-charge Ravel Hemendra Kumar said that till December 12, Section 144 will stay imposed from night 10 pm to next morning 5 am . South District Magistrate has taken this step for the safety and security of public of the district during the upcoming Puja Festival.

It has also been mentioned that without the permission of administration, nobody can enter in that area. In case of anybody’s illegal entry, Section 164 will be imposed upon him/her.

However, also keeping in view the upcoming Durga Puja this step has been taken, so that no turmoil can create within the public over there.

Moreover, sources say that anti-social elements might import arms from Bangladesh via Indo-Bangla border. Getting informed via sources, DM has taken the decision. Till December 12 this 144 Section will be continued in that area covering in total 4 sq km area.
