AGARTALA, September 16 (TIWN): The State Election Commission published draft list of polling stations for the coming urban bodies. election on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters at secretariat on Monday, SK Rakesh, election commissioner said the final publication of polling station will published on September after claim and objection. After the final publication of polling station the commission will publish drafted voter list based on 01-01 -2015 voter list, Rakesh said. Besides, by – election of 1 Zilla Parishad ward, 1 Panchayat Samiti and 25 gram panchayat ward.

The election scheduled to come off in December next, the state government has increased the number of seats in all civic bodies of the state comprising municipal corporation, municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats.

The Urban development department of the state government had issued a notification on July 20 last, which stated that The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has increased its seat from present 35 to 49 seats with a total population of 5, 22,613, as per the Census of March, 2015.
Apart from this 8 municipal councils across Tripura have also increased their seats by a total of 18, seats for the Nagar Panchayats were not increased. In the government notification a total of one municipal corporation, 13 municipal councils and six Nagar Panchayats seats have been declared in the notification for ensuing civic bodies’ election.
The draft publication as per the population status of municipal corporation, municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats will be issued on July 31 next, the claim and objection on the draft publication can be submitted till last date on August 7 and the final publication will be done by August 17
It may be recalled here that the Election Commission will take the charge of works after August 17. There is a total number of 8, 82,242 populations in the urban areas within the state and elections would be held for a total of 310 seats in all civic bodies including corporation. At present, there are one municipal corporation, 13 municipal councils
