AGARTALA, September 15 (TIWN): The awful condition of National Highways of the state which is the only road connectivity that links mainland India has remained a harrowing experience for helpless commuters for a long time now.

The Truck drivers has staged protest on Monday and called for road blockade demanding to renovate the road at Churraibari, after few hours the police visited the spot and withdrawn the protest.

The frequent disruption of vehicular movement due to seasonal landslides, rain and knee level mud on the high way and made the daily transport terrible. This situation has become daily routine for the drivers and the commuters of both the sides.

Despite of so much of problems faced by the travels, the responsible authorities could not manage their valuable time to look over the matter of the National Highways.

Recently, the commuters of the Assam-Agartala National Highway have been facing tough time due to the launched protest and the falling of huge tree over the road.

Reportedly, the road remained blocked for several hours after an old huge tree fallen over on Saturday mid-night. Interestingly, after informing about the situation no officials from the Forest Department arrived for many hours to look into the matter.

Therefore, waiting for hours the locals took the initiative to chop down the tree and to make space for the commuters to pass through.

At present road has turned from its original shape into a muddy, despite of rainy or sunny having no other option the commuters had to travel through the Jumpy-bumpy road which is full of potholes.

Besides, the oil tanker drivers have gone for an indefinite strike in demand of immediate repair of the road on September 12 at the Assam-Agartala road demanding to improve and upgrade the poor condition of the road.

The oil tanker drivers started their strike from Saturday morning which leads the strand of hundreds of vehicles. Thousands of vehicles stranded at Assam’s Lowerpoah area as the Assam-Agartala national highway virtually turned into paddy field due to heavy monsoon since April.

However, the strikes called by the drivers may lead to fuel crisis throughout the state. Reportedly, the drivers will continue with the strike till the road is not renovated.
