AGARTALA, September 14 (TIWN): Agartala Municipal Corporation on Monday organizes seminar on Solid Waste Management at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
This initiative has been taken to make the capital Agartala a clean and green city.
The programme was inaugurated by Mayor Prafullajit Sinha in the presence of Chairman of Pollution Control Board Dr. Amitaba Debroy, Deputy Mayor Samar Chakraborty, CEO of Municipaly Milindh Ranteke and other dignitaries.
It has been mentioned that Agartala is the 36th city which comes under the Clean and Green City of the Country. Besides, it has secured 10th position among the states of North East.
However, this time the aim is to bring the state in the 5th position in the country for cleanliness by 2016.
Keeping eye on the target of securing 5th position in the country, by 2016 all the household of the city will have proper sanitation system. Besides, initiatives will be taken to provide safe drinking water.
Focusing on the picking up of the garbage from the houses, it has been mentioned that at present garbage are picked from only 30 percent of household but in the coming days target is being taken to cover 90 percent of the households in the city so that the cleanliness could be maintained.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation won the ‘Clean and Green City’ award in the year 2014 for waste material management and keeping the city green.
Besides, it has been mentioned that altogether 1 lakh of houses comes under AMC and among these from around 50 houses the waste of Sanitary has been collected. Therefore, these waste products can be used for fertilizers as a part of Solid Waste Management.
However, it has been said that altogether there are 650 AMC workers in the city. They will be provided the concern uniforms twice in a year.
