Mid-day meal scams continue statewide

MELAGHAR / AGARTALA, September 13 (TIWN): On yet another event, Education Dept. of state Tripura faces challenges with the disclose of a huge embezzlement of money at Nathuram Para Junior Basic school. The matter comes under notice when education department’s officials visited the school, and accordingly they found that no mid-day meal had been provided in that school whether hefty amount of money comes in the name of mid-day meal frequently.

Allegations are coming against the school authorities as well as the school teachers for being involved in this embezzlement of money.

However, this has not only the first time when schools have been alleged for mid-day meal’s money embezzlement. ‘Mid-day meal’, which are sending for the children so that they can have a good education along with good health, is yet to be benefit the students here at Tripura. Also in Tripura Mid-day meal has become risky for students’ health with low quality of food grains and unhygienic storage. Examples of being sick critically, due to consuming poisonous mid-day-meal are many in last few years.

According to the reports, since last 3 days meal has been stopped in that school, by saying unavalibility of food storage, and such incidents happens very frequently in this school. Although as per govt. rule eggs are to be provided to children for 2 times a week, but hardly 1 times it is givento the students, alleged local people.

More allegations are coming against the school authority of Nathuram Para Junior Basic school. Only 4 teachers are there in Nathuram Para Junior Basic school and out of them only 2 teachers come regularly. One of the teachers, who is a resident of Agartala remains absent through medical leave. Another teacher namely Jakir Hossain comes 2/3 days per week. Moreover, whenever he comes he is found engaged in listening songs by using headphone into ears. Giving the excuse of “namaj”(Prayer) he often skips from school at 12 pm, alleged students. HM Surya Das also accepted the matter as true.

Students are engaged in various works by teachers, as to arrange water in toilets for them. Classes remain empty most of the times.

On the one hand, Tripura CM propagate his state for securing the top most position in literacy rate, but on the other hand school children are suffering due to lack of teachers, proper infrastructure and low quality of food.
