Sabroom Judge attack : CJM court rejects bail appeal of all 4 CPI-M party leaders, sent to 14 days JC

SABROOM / AGARTALA, September 12 (TIWN): CJM Court on Friday evening sent 4 accused to 14 days JC for attacking Judge Saurabh Saha, ransacking Sabroom Court. After 14 days of Judicial remand, the next hearing will be on Sept 24. CJM Court chaired by Judge Ashit Debnath announced this decision on Friday at 5pm. The name of 4 accused CPI-M leaders are: Bijay Dey, Biswajit Dey, Abhijit Dey and Abhik Basak, who are allegedly involved in attacking Magistrate Saurabh Saha and Sabroom Police Station OC Sanjib Saha during All India Strike held on September 2. All of the accused are members of CPI-M Trade Union, who instigated violence during the strike to close all offices, including the court. Manik Sarkar led CPI-M Govt and South Tripura Police was acting sitting duck till High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Deepak K Gupta visited Sabroom court on Sept 5, CJ condemned this ghastly attack on democracy, sent a letter to Chief Minister for prompt action and ordered South Tripura administration for prompt action. Within 24 hours on Sept 6, South Tripura Police arrested 2 more culprits.However on behalf of the accused advocate A. Debnath appealed for their bail. But Judge Ashit Basak rejecting the appeal sent Bijay Dey, Biswajit Dey, Abhijit Dey and Abhik Basak for Judicial remand till 24th September.

The next hearing will be on 24rth September, confirmed SP Bhanupada Chakroborty while talking to TIWN.It’s to be mentioned that on September 2nd, during 24 hour’s All India Strike, amidst of tight security Sabroom Court Magistrate Saurav Saha was attacked by the CPI-M leaders in front of the Sabroom Court. As a part of the protest, the CPI-M picketers were keeping a strict eye to obstruct the officials from working in their office.

Reportedly, Magistrate Saurav Saha called upon two other employees alongwith a bank clerk to enter office. When he was on the way to the court office the CPI-M leaders opposed him entering court. However, on the issue of entering the office the picketers had some arguments in front of the court. Later, the police escorted Judge Saurav Saha to the office.

After a while, when the Saha has began his work, the picketers thronged in to the office and broke the doors and windows along with benches.

During the incident, Saha somehow escaped to the washroom and managed to save his life. Later the incident was informed to the South S.P Bhanu Pada Chakraborty.

Following this ghastly incident, police arrested 2 picketers, whether rest of the 2 were latter arrested after  Tripura High Court Chief Justice Deepak Gupta’s visit to Sabroom. Chief Justice condemned the incident by saying that whether all Tripura had peacefully observed strike, it was only Sabroom and Belonia which failed to maintain the peace of the strike. He also said, ‘attacks on Judges are unexpected in a democratic society’.

However, even though late, Sabroom police caught all of the culprit CPI-M leaders, during  the 2nd hearing on Friday, rejected the bail appeal of all 4 accused, CJM Ashit Debnath sent 4 of them to suffer 14 days JC, till the next hearing on 24th September.
