UDAIPUR, September 8 (TIWN): Even the administration has broken the cemented embankment of Kalyansagar to save the rare species of the Botsami turtle in the lake, another issue which needs to be dealt with by the authorities immediately is the dumping of garbage at the vast water body.

Wrappers of chips, paper bags, and plastics are scattered everywhere on the embankment making the environment stinky and irresistible. The accumulation of garbage has turned the water body into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Apart from this the locals of the area takes bath in the lake which is another major issue to be noticed. The negligence of the authority is only hampering the beauty of the lake and also hampering the existence of the animals in the lake.

The most prominent temple of Tripura, the Tripura Sundari temple’s Lake Kalyan Sagar is famous all over India for the collection of its rare Bostami turtles and various kinds of fishes. But the extinctions of its tortoises have become a very common and an old issue.

On one hand where the administration has bull doze the embankment of the lake after the order of the High Court, on the other hand the authority has failed to check the pollution in the lake.

When the authorities are busy in focusing to save the species of the Botsami turtle in the lake, they ignored the fact that with the rise of pollution in the lake can also hamper the existence of the animals.

As the lake is famous for very rare species of tortoise and for its beauty, tourists mostly like to spend their time at the embankment of the lake but the dumping of waste stuffs like papers and foods in huge quantity for the fishes has contaminated the water.

According to the locals, the embankment remains unclean most of the time. There are no regular checks on the dumped stuffs. Besides, allegation rose that where cleanliness should be maintained and water should be kept clean the authorities are not taking any initiatives.

Besides, the administration has broken the cemented embankment but so far has not prepared any hatchery for the breeding of the tortoise, resulting the tortoise to walk away from the lake.

The localites alleged that though the administration has bull doze the embankment of the lake after the order of the High Court but the authority has not take any major steps to preserve the tortoise in the lake.  As there is no proper hatchery in the lake the tortoises walks out of the lake and goes to the nearby pond for breeding.
