Border haats in NE Tripura takes up Rs. 3.59 crore trade with Bangladesh, Raghna haat in pipeline

AGARTALA, September 7 (TIWN): Gaining a ground in increasing the income generation for the poor farmers of the state and to strengthen the bi-lateral relation with its counterpart, the northeastern states of Tripura has come up growing its economy through the border haats or markets. The Tripura Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. Is the implementing agency for construction of such markets in the state. Of the proposed 8 only two bordr haat was set up whereas another 2 is in pipeline towards accelerating the state’s economy.

The two border haat was set up at Tripura Srinagar with a total cost of Rs. 2.38 crore and another was set up at Kamalsagar with a total cost of 2.44 crore.

According the government record, as on July 21, 2015 total trade of Rs. 2.59 crore has taken place at Srinagar border haat opened from January 13 this year, out of which Rs. 1.86 crore is Indian goods and Rs. 0.73 crores id Bangladeshi goods.

Besides, a total of Rs. 1.00 crore trade has taken place at another haat being set up at Kamalsagar as on August 20, 2015. The haat was opened after its official launch on June 11 this year.

However, in view of getting another border haat at Kamalpur and Raghna in Tripura the government of India has communicated the pillar locations. Already lands have been identified in the Indian side. But the same is yet to be finalised in Bangladesh part.

The haat management committee under the chairmanship of concerned ADM have been constituted to finalise the exact locations in consultation with their counterpart in Bangladesh.

 

It is to be mentioned here that recently in a meeting with the Hon’ble Members of Parliament of Tripura on August 19 this year with Union Minister for commerce and industry in Delhi, a nod has been tied to the state government to move ahead with two proposed projects comprising of construction of bridge over river Feni in South Tripura and another sanction of fund for two border haats at Kamalpur and Raghna.
