Villagers abducted by NLFT not yet released, worries Tripura Govt.

AGARTALA, September 7 (TIWN): Even after the passage of at least 1 week the 2 tribal villagers of Maldapara under Dhalai district being abducted by the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant have not yet been released despite the Tripura Border Security Force (BSF) authority taking an immediate initiatives served several notice to its counterpart.

Talking to TIWN on Sunday evening an official source from Dhalai District infirmed, “So far no response has come from the Bangladesh part but the concerned authority had already put its best effort towards getting the villagers released soon.”

The official added that the BSF had already sent a protest letter to its counterpart but till now no response has come.

He said that last year some of the villagers were abducted by the NLFT militants while they had gone for jhum cultivation along the bordering areas of the Dhalai district and later but they were released. Therefore this is not something news but this time the villagers who were abducted were not yet released evoking a worry for the government.

The incident took place just after the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that government do not want a cease fire violation with the NLFT hideouts in Bangladesh. The incident took place when three tribals were collecting bamboo from a forest in Maldapara village in Dhalai district on Saturday.

The Border Security Force has asked the Border Guards Bangladesh to take suitable action to rescue the villagers.
