Plantation programme on the eve of observance of the 48th Engineers Day

AGARTALA, September 6 (TIWN): On the eve of observance of the 48th Engineers Day, a plantation programme has been organized on Sunday at Maharani Tulshibati Girls High School.

The programme has been jointly organized by the Institute of Engineers (India) which includes the Tripura State Centre NIT Agartala, TECHNO India Agartala, ICFAI University, Tripura Institute of Technology and
others.
The programme was inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Manik Dey, in the presence of president of Institute of Engineers Dr. Swapan Bhowmik and others.
During the programme it has been said that to make the day fruitful the people should work time to time. Besides, the pollution should be control by planting more trees.
September 15 is celebrated every year in the country as "Engineers' Day" to commemorate the birthday of the legendary engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Sir Visvesvaraya, an eminent Indian engineer and statesman was born in a remote village of Karnataka, the State that is incidentally now the Hitech State of the country.
Due to his outstanding contribution to the society, Government of India conferred "Bharat Ratna" on this legend in the year 1955. He was also called the precursor of economic planning in India. His learned discourse on economic planning in India, Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India, was the first available document on the planning effort of the country and it is still held as the parent source matter for economic planners.  Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born in 15 September 1860, into a Mulukanadu Brahmin family to
Mokshagundam Srinivasa Shastry and Venkatalakshmamma in Muddenahalli village, 40 miles from Bangalore, Mysore State (now Karnataka), India.
