AGARTALA, September 3 (TIWN): The much hyped multi-crore scam unearthed under the state National Health Mission (NHM) director office had got no further development in its investigation by the police. The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Thursday seeking an immediate arrest of the culprits had hit the NHM Director office. Congress President Birajit Sinha had lodged FIR against at least 17 CMOs and other officials earlier. According to the FIR, the health officials had embezzled an amount of Rs. 4.47 crore under National Rural Health Mission. However, no one was arrested in this connection.

The congress on Thursday raising its voice against the negligence role of the police had demanded for a healthy investigation into the case without any further delay.

Tripura Police have launched an investigation into an alleged funds scam to the tune of Rs 4.47 crore in the National Health Mission (NHM) following an FIR by NHM mission director on the month of April first, but interestingly no arrest has been yet today.

According to the source the accused medical officers are engaged in different hospitals of the district. The fund was given for procuring medicines, implementing various schemes under NHM in the district and construction works in rural hospitals.

But it has been found that at least 17 officials under the NHM (Unakoti District) could not submit the utilization certificate with proper receipt and payment statements.

Despite getting salvos from the High Court of Tripura (HC), the probe into the multi-crore scam at national flagship programme - NRHM has come to a halt.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Unakoti District - Dr. Alok Dewan, accused of misappropriating allocated fund under NRHM outlay has managed to comfort in his office but interestingly Dewan along with another Medical Officer of Kanchanpur Sub-Division Choitanya Reang has been transferred recently allegedly to eyewash the people from the entire scam.
