General strike affects the transportation in Tripura

AGARTALA, September 2 (TIWN): Nationwide strike called to pursue with the 12 points charter of demands on Wednesday affected the normal life in the state as all means of public transport stayed off the roads.Passengers, Commuters and office-goers faced inconvenience as buses, small and medium vehicles, auto-rickshaws and even battery-operated rickshaws remained off the roads in response to the 24-hour strike. The picketers assembled in front of the courts and the various governments offices to stop the employees from entering the offices in response to the 24-hour general strike. According to report, the strike was observed peacefully. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state. However, in support of the nationwide strike the picketers bunged up the Karimgonj going train at 9:30 am in the morning. The picketers placed flags and hoardings of the organization in front of the engine of the train. Besides, the flight passengers who had booked their ticket on the day assembled at the East Police station and were taken at the Agartala Airport.

During the strike the picketers has also obstructed the Deputy Law Secretary to visit the court and the other employees as well to enter the session court.

The picketers on Wednesday also organised protest rallies across Tripura demanding for 12 points charter of demands in one voice condemns the BJP-led NDA Government’s anti worker, anti-peasants, anti-people and pro-corporate and many others.

Various other employees unions and professional organisations have extended their support to the strike.

Besides, the employees were not allowed to go to the office and if they try to enter the picketers stop them.

The unanimous declaration of the National Convention, organized by Central Trade Unions and all India State Employees Federation of all sectors and services condemned the Modi Government for bringing sweeping changes in the Land Acquisition Act permitting forcible acquisition of land from the farmers and drastically curbing farmer’s right to land and agricultural worker’s right to livelihood, bringing sweeping changes in the labour laws in favour of the employers and many others.

However, All India State Government Federation as a part of accreditation organization of Tripura Government Employees’ Association along with others calls for the General Strike.
