AGARTALA, September 2 (TIWN): Despite of stunning figures of power bill remains pending in various government departments and offices, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited fails to recover power bills.

As per the report, even after prolonged years, the TSECL could not shape up the fate of around Rs. 84 crore, pending government bills in the state that got piled up due to 'Non-payment of Government bills'.

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) where continues to burden its power consumers to recover their losses and threatens them to disconnect their connection if they fails to submit their bill on time. Besides, the same corporation fails to recover power bills amounting around Rs 84 crore from several government bodies.

However, this amount should be recovered on priority basis and if the institutions fail to pay, strict action should be taken against them.

Despite the stunning figures of pending bills; the power connection to the departments cannot not be disconnected as most of their services come under the emergency category.

The Government departments with multiple connections usually don’t pay bills on a regular basis because of budgetary constraints. Most of them pay only when they are granted funds by the State government.

On one hand, TSECL has failed to provide round the clock electricity in the metered areas, power theft in unauthorised colonies is going unchecked.

However, power theft is one of the main reasons for damage to infrastructure, a fact which can be acknowledged by the TSECL, but no action is being taken to prevent it.

People in several unauthorised colonies, which have sprung in the city in recent years, could be found stealing power using hooks lines.

Areas like ADC and Jumpui Jala the power theft case is rampant.

However, due to the lapse of bills by the Government Department, the common people have to bear the burden by paying the unexpected amount set by the TSECL.
