ICAR Tripura Centre distribute improved quality fruit plants and vegetable seeds among the tribal farmers

AGARTALA, September 2 (TIWN): Keeping in view the agricultural development, a programme has been held at Balaram Chaudhury Para, Lembucherra, (Lefunga block) organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra, under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) outreach project on Tuesday. During the programme distribution of improved quality fruit plants and vegetable seed among the tribal farmers had also been done.

Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council,Jahar Debbarma, graced the programme as Chief Guest and he praised the efforts and initiatives taken up by ICAR Tripura Centre in this tribal village for overall livelihood improvement through the  introduction of various technologies. He also advised the local farmers to follow the technical guidance give by the horticultural scientist to manage and protect the fruit plants. 

Dr. M. Datta, Joint Director, ICAR Tripura Centre, advised the farmers to be more proactive in adopting improved technologies of ICAR Tripura Centre for integrated farming system. Dr. Biswajit Das, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) and Principal Investigator of the project, apprised that since two months around 300 mango and mosambi plants have already been planted in the field of total 30 farming families of this village and this plant distribution programme has been organized to  cover more numbers of  families. He also told that the main objective of this fruit plant distribution programme is to convert the whole village as fruit orchard. 

Dr. Avijit Haldar, Principal Scientist, told about the scope of pig, goat and poultry for integrated farming system.  Total 100 mango plants, 100 sabri banana suckers, 50 mosambi plants, 100 litchi plants, 100 papaya plants and 150 packets of improved winter vegetable seed were distributed tribal farmers. Women tribal farmers were also demonstrated the techniques of planting and management of fruit plants.
