HC finds loopholes in Govt. affidavit over Bishalgarh multi-crore MGNREGA scam, asks for fresh affidavit by Oct. 3; summons Principal Secretary GSG Ayyangar

AGARTALA, Sept 1 (TIWN): Finding several loopholes on the affidavit being submitted the state government on Monday over the much rocked Bishalgarh multi-crore Rural Development (RD) scam the Tripura High Court directed the concerned authorities of state RD department to submit a fresh affidavit before the court by October 3, said Advocate Kalyani Roy.Centering the loopholes being found on the affidavit over the multi crore scam at Bishalgarh, the court also asked Principal Secretary of RD Department Dr. GSG Ayyangar to be present in the court in this regard the very day.Roy said that the affidavit submitted by the concerned department carried some loopholes due to which the latter was asked to re-submit a new affidavit. After the court gets the affidavit and statement of the concerned official, it will give the final verdict on the same day, said Roy. The opposition Congress filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the in 2014 demanding CBI probe into the scam. Following the PIL, the HC served a notice to the government to give reasons of discarding CBI enquiry into the corruption incident of Bishalgarh RD Block.Though, Bimal was arrested last year, he walked out free from the judicial custody as Manik Sarkar's police failed to submit charge sheet against him even after 180 days.

The multi-crore scam was unearthed by an internal audit report and has rocked the entire state after the former BDO and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s close aide Bimal Chakroborty was arrested in this connection following the FIR being filed by the then Finance Minister Badal Choudhury.

Under acute pressure from the opposition, an FIR was lodged against 12 officials including former BDO of the block –Bimal Chakraborty. Chakraborty was deputy director of the state’s Information and cultural Affairs Department before he was suspended.
