AGARTALA, August 31 (TIWN): Getting the assembly’s nod in the recent past the state Left front government leaving no stone unturned had pushed the plan for establishing separate state university in the existing Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College campus. “Government’s varsity plan is making a good progress and we are trying our utmost to start the academic session by this year,†said State education minister Tapan Chakroborty.
He said that the government would take the Governor Tathagata Roy’s consent for starting the academic session and the government is expecting that the university would receive a good number of students for its various courses.
Chakroborty very recently meeting with the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani informed about the latest development over setting up university in the state.
“The Union Ministry had assured the government of Tripura that the centre would accept the state government’s notifying list of colleges to tag them in the proposed MBB University,” said Chakroborty.
He also said that the centre said that the government can take the consent of Governor to open the MBB University.
Government has taken initiatives to draw a list of de-notifying colleges by next month and will send it to the union ministry for its further proceedings, Chakroborty said.
Currently, Tripura Central University has over 40 degree colleges besides two medical colleges. Some of the degree colleges of those will be de-notified from Tripura Central University for new varsity, he said.
