AGARTALA, August 28 (TIWN): To keep a vigil on uses of the plastic carry bags, a five member management and executive committee was formed on district level. However, the committee members were powered to take any legal action against the users who are not abide by the rules, said district official.

Officers from district administration, police, sales tax, local municipal bodies and scientific officers from DSTE were included in the committee.

Asked about the function of the committee, the official said that the committee will act to execute the ban on plastic bags. District Magistrate and Collector and all the committee members were authorised to take any legal action against the plastic bag users.

Besides, the government had also directed the concerned department to charge pollution cost from the plastic bag users. The amount of fine will be Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 from permanent shops and organisations.

However, the department sources said that officers at Sub Inspector level and some other designated officers under the SDPO of each sub-division are authorised to collect the  fine as pollution cost which would be centrally deposited at TLA House branch of SBI under the account of secretary of Tripura Pollution Control Board.

The authorised officers were also directed to provide receipt for the amount collected as pollution cost, the official said.

The plastic carry bag manufacturer, hoarder and transporters would come under the punishment according to the Section of Environment Protection Act, 1986. In case of any violation of the government order by any institution or by any industry or by any shop, the TSPCB would issue closure order and also issue order for disconnection of electricity of that institution or industry or shop.
