AGARTALA, August 27 (TIWN): Leaving no stone unturned, even after massive scams in centrally sponsored schemes MGNREGA, NRHM, RMSA - Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar yet again reiterating his demand for special category tag after meeting with the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely on August 24. “The funding pattern of 90:10 cannot be changed by any means as the state come up as the ultimate looser from every field,†said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday.
Talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat on Wednesday Sarkar said, “Restoring the funding pattern for the state has been a long term demand but so far no change has been brought to the decision being taken by the government at the centre.”
Adding to that Sarkar also said that after studying the 14th Finance Commission recommendations and the union budget for the current fiscal, it appears that the special category status of the northeastern states is going to be discontinued.
He added that the 14th FC has awarded only Rs 31,308.76 crore for the next five years against the state's demand of Rs 64,215.03 crore. As a result, the financial burden of the state has been a cause of concern for the state government.
Sarkar expressing displeasure over the role of the centre said, “The state has been the ultimate looser despite the centre very wisely campaigned that 14th Finance Commission share of Central Taxes revolution has been hiked by 10 per cent.”
Without such special help many of the ongoing central projects might come to a halt, Jaitley was informed.
However, later Sarkar said that the Union Minister had assured he will take up the issue with the department very shortly.
It is to be mentioned that, after rampant corruptions in Central Schemes by Manik Sarkar's State Govt - Central Govt has curtailed funds in every Central sponsored schemes in State.
